Academic experience applied to innovative ship design

DINAV - Dipartimento Di Ingegneria Navale E Tecnologie Marine of the University of Genoa, is adding its experienced professional academic work to ERI-MARINE’s innovative hull design.

Using a Finite Element Model, the team of reputed Italian Professors, including Prof. Ing. Dario Boote and Massimo Figari, has worked on the structural design of the HSC C160.

At first, the global FEM analysis of the HSC C160 used the sea pressure loads, as derived directly from DNV rules, to allow an optimization of the structure. Then, the study was extended to the application of the most representative load cases resulting from the hydrodynamic load investigation carried out by MARIN and agreed with DNV.

In order to increase confidence in the design loads, an extensive series of model tests will be performed in the coming months.

The 5-month multi-national research project has saved considerable time, is mutually enriching and is now being applied to a HSC Ro-Pax version.
